Recorded live at Champlin United Methodist Church some time in the late 90s. I originally recorded it on my second album Independence Av. But...I prefer this version in many ways. This was back when I was performing a lot more regularly.

The death penalty is nothing more than state sanctioned murder. It is not up to us. And the fact that you have innocent executed makes the death penalty immoral.

Sometimes I wonder just how far we will go
To serve our own ends as to what is just
We're always looking for exceptions to the rules
But somehow we always end up playing the Devil's fool
In this world where violence is king

But the time has come for us to try a better way
Vengeance serves no end except to fuel our violent spirits
But who are we to judge?

Last time I looked all it sayd was you shall not kill
No conditions or exceptions it seemed pretty absolute
But we always want to find exceptions to the rules
