A mixture of folk, Americana, rock, and instrumental tracks, this is Stephen's most diverse and hard to catagorize release. From the primal influences of "Old Ways" to the acid jazz stylings of "Clueless," Stephen's range is impressive. Whether singing about environmentalism, politics, God, whales, depression, or anger, all is delivered with a confidence that comes from years of making music. This is a total Berg tour de force, with Stephen playing all instruments with the exception of Todd Fugere's classic e-bow stylings on "Ultra Cool".

Sacred Land 03:56
Sometimes I don't understand our lack of compassion When we take things and we use them as if they were ours alone We build our monuments to ourselves on ancient hallowed land Profaning it in a way that's uniquely all our own We've learned to subdue our world in foul unnatural ways But we know that our dominion is a fleeting one at best As things progress beyond the norm and we close our eyes to see Never knowing that in the end ours is a fatal rest Standing on sacred ground unable to see the past I hope that someday we learn a different set of rules 'Cause the ship that we're sailing on is a loaded ship of fools (guitar solo) I'm tired of the same old lame excuses by those in power When they frame as a game for bullies and bruisers As they grab more land and grub for oil and never once look back It's more obvious that we're clueless witless brainless fucked up losers

Well, you ain't no Cool Hand Luke You never ate no fifty eggs You never cut the heads off of any parking meters Or had chain gang chains on your legs Well, you ain't no Cool Hand Luke You never spent a night in the box You never made the best with a hand full of nothing And learned to live with your hard life knocks I'm gonna bounce another rock right off your head Put another name on you instead 'Cause you ain't no Cool Hand Luke Well, I don't know why we fail In our attempts to communicate It seems you blame the world and the ones you love For your sorry life and your injured state But we ain't done nothin' to you You've made your own little life full of bile I don't understand how your mind works But your bullshit is quite a pile

Save the whales Whales are cool, they are my friends I hate to see them come to unfortunate ends Harpoons in their sides, killed for their blubber Don't want no whale killin', I'm a whale lover Hey listen, hear me, what I say, whales are cool And unlike fish they don't swim in schools Whales what I love and you better love them too Otherwise you'll find a harpoon sticking in you Whales are cool, they got blow holes And they are mammals like cows and does They don't hurt no one, so dig what I say To hunt them for money just ain't a good way To take care of our world, it's the only one we've got And if the whales are gone then there's no way to stop Them aliens comin' down like Star Trek IV Till we ain't got any world anymore

I don't want to know And I don't want to care And I don't want to feel And I don't want to dare Giving up is the easy thing to do Giving up makes me lose only you And I don't care at all And I don't want to grow And I don't want to change me And I don't want to go I only want to be
6.
Nostradamus did you proud Discipleship proved you were all deserving Following in footsteps bold I followed though I knew the tide was turning They no longer cared They took me away from you I tried my hand at loving you But I found you were far beyond approach I trusted you completely But changed to everyone you know But you cannot shut me out 'Cause I'm not one of them You know I've seen it all before The open stage, the open door But they never let me through They never let me in to see you Your crowd of minions gets me down They make me want to go and be your martyr Flog it in your senseless mind The dirt you preach forgets me all together But I once loved you so But you don't want me back You know I've seen it all before The open stage, the open door But they never let me through They never let me in to see you People run away each day Like you they turn and slip away They lose their minds, they lose control Until they are no longer whole Don't know what I'm going to do My life means nothing without you Nostradamus did you proud Discipleship proved you were all deserving

Your indignation stirs me and I'm really quite amused While you laugh at those around you and I think you're so confused Well, no one here can tell you what is right and what s wrong As you point your finger accusingly at those who don't belong So tell me everything you know As the wind of lunacy from your mouth flows 'Cause you're a right thinking man You're a moral thinking man Well, Hannity and Limbaugh are your daily dose of bile Topped off with Bill O'Reilly and his snarky pointed style Well, the talking points drone on and on in the realm of the absurd And the daily portion of hate and rage from coast to coast is heard Well, you wrap the flag around you and you preach your gospel of hate I'd like to help you save your soul but I guess that it's too late Global warming is a lie you say we're the invincible human race As Americans we rule the world and shove our morals in their face Oh why do they hate us you can be heard to wonder aloud As we shove our God right down their throats 'cause their god's not allowed

I sit here late and I ponder If we will ever learn There is no strength in numbers If no fire within us burns As we grow in ways to suit Our vanity and greed Looking to gain the things we want Rather than what we need Good intentions put aside We need to honest with ourselves Do we serve others to glorify God Or put trophies on our shelves Give in silence asking for nothing Forget you've done it and go your way Make it part of howyou live A normal routine on a normal day We need to find ways to serve That don't glorify ourselves Because if we have to sing our own song Somethings wrong

Sometimes it's you Sometimes it's me Sometimes it's something deep down inside You don't want see I don't know Why you do what you I just know the problem isn't me It's all about you My mind is clear But your mind is not I try to see for the both of us What's real or not Your feelings They never come outside So it's a guessing game Which rollercoaster we're all gonna ride So take a break Calm yourself You get so uneasy and nervous It's time for something else I got no anger No deep laid plans The conspiracy theories are fiction You don't understand
12.
I thought that you were cool you know I thought you were okay Thought maybe you were different, but it didn't turn out that way So you packed your bags and off you went to where we do not know Never thought I'd be doing handstands just to watch you go I don't know, I don't know Oh yeah It's gonna be different 'round here I find I'm not missing you and the company you keep And now that you have left the scene I see I was in too deep It takes to much work to care for all your selfish needs and pain When everything about you drives us all insane They say blood runs deep in family but I know that it's not true Just because you're family does not make me love you Relatives you cannot pick, you know that it's too bad Because blood runs thinner than water here and I think it's rather sad
13.
I will try to do my best And I won't worry about the rest Though I stumble and always fall In the end you were there through it all Though life changes in fits and stargs All that matters is what's in our hearts You know sometimes life moves too fast Only good things are made to last Life begins and life ends We gain others and lose friends As a mortal living in fragility Once a savior, won't you please save me

Crazy Power 02:26
I burn my bridges now I will leap before I look Ignore what I mistook And dive into the blaze head first It won't get better 'Cause it will go from bad to worse Like evolution in reverse And all that's left is fear and crazy power With the Bible in one hand With a sword we aim to kill Those we perceive that bear us ill 'Till the rest of all mankind looks like us Where do we go from here? I think only God knows The way this river flows We need to learn to love and not to hate

about

This could be called my "angry album." Anger at our looming environmental crisis, self righteous jerks, knee-jerk conservativism, and dishonest Christianity. It also is home to the most instrumentals I have put on a CD with 5: "Old Ways," "Clueless," "Ultra Cool, "Without A Care," and "Old Ways Too." Recorded ins spurts between 2007-2010, it is stylistically all over the place in a good way, I think.
