about

One huge influence on me was the band Klaatu, a Canadian trio who everyone thought was the Beatles. They sang songs about space, neutrinos, other planets, as well as lifeguard true life heros. They were known for the song "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" which was actually a minor hit for the Carpenters!

The lyrics were written by Robert Hanson and myself in French class in the 9th grade. We would pass a sheet between us and write this line by line. It got is seperated, however, and out French teacher would never let us sit together again! When we recorded it on our first "album" LIFE IN A TEST TUBE I envisioned this real rocker. Unfortunately, all we had was my mother's old Decca electric guitar and a tin bucket. The guitar would not chord or stay in tune, but away we went. Funny, I always had a melody in my head for this, and when I finally decided to revisit it, it worked! It's about space, androids, and love. You can't get any better than that!

Guitars used for this are my Squier Hello Kitty run right into the Boss SY1 synthesizer pedal, and the bass is run direct into a tc electronic Rusty Fuzz pedal and then to a Fender Hammertone Flanger.

lyrics

ME AND MY ANDROID TAKING THE SKYWAYS
ALL THROUGH THE GALAXY DOING IT MY WAY
DO YOU WANT TO COME ALONG, COME FLY WITH ME
ONLY YOU, ME, AND MY 'DROID WE COULD BE HAPPY AS CAN BE

SPACE LOVE, YEAH
SPACE TRAVEL, YEAH
SPACE HAPPY, YEAH
YEAH, YEAH, YEAH

WE COULD JET TO VENUS AND LEAVE OUR 'DROID BEHIND
THE LOVLINESS OF VENUS WILL GROW UPON OUR MINDS
WE COULD TRAVEL TO SATURN AND SIT UPON THE RINGS
THE WE GO TO MARS AND COLLECT SOME PRETTY THINGS

WE COULD SIT AND TALK UNTIL OUR 'DROID CAME UP
THEN WE GO FOR A RIDE IN MY ANTIQUE PICKUP TRUCK
BUT THIS ALL WILL END FOR I'M DUE AT MY SHIP
I'LL NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN FOR I'M OFF ON ANOTHER TRIP
