about

I really am not sure of the origins of this song. I think I was listening to a lot of Yes and Rick Wakeman at the time, and tried to write something mystical. And, I think it works.

This song has an odd history. I remember when I was on the school newspaper, and our class met concurrently with the Yearbook class (I think, or maybe there were some students in both classes). Anyway, a student had died during the year, and they were scrambling on the yearbook staff to have a poem or something similar in a memorial page. I offered this up under the condition that I NOT be credited, because I did not know the student. It was printed and I was credited anyway, much to my chagrin.

I think I recorded this twice in my high school days. I think it has a nice melody and feel. On this recording I am using my Aria 19th Century Romantic guitar and my Fender 12-string.

lyrics

THE TIME HAS COME TO STOP AND DWELL
TO CONTEMPLATE ON RUINED TIME
WASTED WARS AND FOOLISH PRIDE
TO SEEK A CLEANER INNOCENT TIME

WASTE NOT YOUR TIME MY FRIEND
YOU TRY TO LIVE WHAT USED TO BE
YOU CAN'T DO IT, CAN'T YOU SEE?
THOUGH YOU FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE

DID YOU SEE THE GRAVES TODAY
ALL BURIED AWAY IN THE SAND?
THEY SEEMED TO PLEAD, SEEM TO DEMAND
THAT THERE BE A PROMISED LAND.
